Here you can read a more detailed description of my story so far.
After graduating from university in 2006, having studies Computer Engineering, I began working in Belfast, assuming that I would settle down to life in Northern Ireland. However, God had different plans. I felt that I would like to spend some time away from home, and began to look around for opportunities. It was suggested to me that I should look into some time in short term mission, so I applied to Serving in Mission or SIM. They gave a number of short term assignments to choose from, timing, finance and other factors contributed to me making the decision to leave to go to Ethiopia for a 9 month placement. Looking back, God's directing and leading is clear. I left to become the IT teacher in Bingham Academy, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. After staying for 9 months, I really didn't want to leave, so stayed on for another year, taking my total stay to 1 year and 9 months. You can see my blogs from that time on the blog section of this site.
At that stage, Serving in Mission explained that I should transition to become a long term member if I wanted to stay on in Ethiopia. I didn't feel ready to make that commitment, so returned back to Northern Ireland. However, God had not finished with me. After working for 2 years back in Belfast, I had a desire to return to the country. I realised that God was calling me to return full time, to commit to serving him in Ethiopia. Realising my need of formal Bible training, I enrolled at the Irish Baptist College, on the Preparation for Ministry degree course, to prepare me for long term service overseas. I graduated from this back in May 2014.
I am presently preparing to leave for Ethiopia in November 2014. I am hoping to spend about 9 months in language school, learning the Amharic language. After this, I will begin teaching in Bingham Academy. I am hoping to teach IT as well as Bible, and to get involved with youth work, discipleship and mentoring programs amongst the youth in the school, as well as in the city as a whole.
